Week in Review
Last weekend I journeyed up to Davis. I had posted on craigslist rideshares the night before I left (ie Thursday night) and to my suprise by the next morning I had a taker. So I went up with this girl Linda who didn't try to kill me once, and halved my gas costs!
Friday evening I hung out in Berkeley with the lovely Sarah Edwards and her Boalt Law School compatriots. We hung out in this bar in Berkeley called Becketts, which was a lovely little place. Then we watched the movie Hot Fuzz and I must say it was much more excellent than I had expected. Not watching TV ever and therefore not being privy to trailers and such, I had expected it to be just another lame hollywood slapstick comedy ... but in fact it was British and hilarious!
   Brief spoiler )

I would definitely watch that movie again. A+

Saturday morning I had a hot dog (specifically a calabrese?) from Top Dog in Berkeley, and then headed up to Davis. There I hung out with Alvin Tsao and some others from Phi Alpha Deltla at Alvin's bbq. Also I had another hot dog or two.
Saturday evening I went with Nikki Wurnitsch and her boyfriend to the Second Saturday art walk in Sacramento and generally caused a ruckus out there.

Then I headed back to Berkeley, and after having another two calabrese dogs at Top Dog, headed back down south on Sunday (with the ridemate).
Returning to OC I met up with Shalane and we marauded a bit looking for something to do.

At work this week we sent Jeremy up to Fresno for supplies for 30 beehives. Then we spent a day assembling them, and another day painting them. At some point in the past Dave had acquired Sundance Apiaries, Inc, which he had eventually folded up. We've got a location in one of the canyons where we can set up our hives, restart Sundance Apiaries Inc, and contribute to the local bee population's health in a more warm and fuzzy manner by raising healthy bees.

After extensive research and testing, I think I have determined that Mackeson Triple Stout may be my very favourite beer, surpassing previous champion Black Hart Irish Stout (both available from Trader Joes). This is unfortunate because I think Black Hart has a much cooler name. (=

I spent six hours at a Senate meeting on Thursday. Then I wanted to die. I'm glad I only ever came within 24% of enough votes to become a Senator. Moreover, I'm glad choice voting wasn't in place at the time, otherwise I surely would have been subjected to 6+ hour Senate meetings for an entire year.

Today (Friday) I went down to the barber in the basement of the MU to get a haircut. When I got down there the guy in the chair was in the middle of saying "have you ever heard of daviswiki.org?" Turns out the individual was JasonAller.
After that I felt like having a hot dog, so I headed over to the Hot Dogger. There I got the "gut bomb," which turned out to be heaping with cheese and beans and peppers and things, and I found to be quite satisfying. I made the mistake of trying to eat it like a normal hot dog at first rather than with knife and fork, but it turned out to be far too messy.
And then I met some local punkish youths who informed me that apparently the Hot Dogger is the place to hang out.

Tomorrow and the next day I will spend nearly all my time at the Model UN conference we are hosting here this weekend.

In Other News: To prove that the Cal Aggie was continually overprinting, local Orwellian Brent Laabs set about collecting the left-over day old aggies at the end of the day. The Aggie retaliated by sending him to Student Judicial Affairs on theft charges. After due consideration, SJA made him sign a contract... to continue the research project.

Caffiene
Spent all week getting no sleep, writing papers, and drinking excessive amounts of caffiene.
Through extensive experimentation I have determined that quality of caffiene is very important. Instant coffee has significant amounts of caffiene but fries my brain and makes me uselessly jittery. This week I managed to subsist on the high quality caffiene of jolt (thanks to my darling Kristy who was kind enough to go on a jolt run for me), which allowed me to operate in complete disregard for advisable sleeping patterns.

Aaron
Aaron came to town again today and he ate with Kristy and I ate at Murder Burger (AKA Redrum Burger). Kritsy got a hot dog there which looked mad good, I'm gonna have to try it next time.

Then Kristy and Aaron scampered off to Pleasanton (Kristy's hometown, little over an hour away) to party with her friends and ex.
And I'm spending the evening reading.

Azver
"Aaron is like... Kris and Azver's lovechild from the future come back in time to be Kris' best friend" -roommate Jill

I've recently become addicted to this web-comic that Azver showed me when he was here Wednesday night.

I JUST ATE A CHEESE DANISH
Actually I just wanted to show off my new-found ability to make scrolling marquees (but I DID in fact just eat a cheese danish). Hellyes. I'm still dying to know how y'all align things on the right side of the screen.

Anyway. On Friday I took the 14:15 intercampus shuttle down to Berkeley, which arrived there at about 15:30. I was intended to make contact with my elder brother Tobin, and spend the night at his location. Arriving on the ground in Berkeley I located his place of residence immediately, but opted to wander about a bit before attempting to make contact. So I went down to Top Dogger and ate a delicious hotdog, wandered around a bit on Telegraph, and spent most of the afternoon sitting in the warm sun on the steps in front of Sproul Hall, studying.
Presently I made a few attempts to reach Tobin via telephonemachine, but they were all unsuccessful. I was however able to reach comrade Michelle (Phelps?) on the phone, a girl I dated in 11th grade but since that time have seen but once (for about 30 seconds), and she invited me to a party that evening, so at least I had something to do.
It became rather nippy out there if I do say so myself, and still unable to reach Tobin or any other locals I could only wander around homelessly.. hang out in shops merely to stay warm. Went to the familiar Durant Hotel to use its restroom... had another hot dog from Top Dogger, and eventually it was 21:00 and I headed down to the party, which was off hearst somewhere a block or two west of shattuck.
It was a great relief to be definitively out of the cold, and the people at the party were pretty cool.. it was a nice little shindig of a party. Two people there recognized me from earlier in the day (I was wearing my "UC DAVIS" shirt that everyone always asks if I made myself).
I ended up spending the night on the couch there. Got up at 07:30 and walked up to the Greek Theatre for Tobin's 08:30 gradumatation. There I met up with the rest of my family; the parents and younger brother Eric, an incorrigable troll. Tobin was graduating in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science (EECS).
Afterwords we met up with Tobin, his latest woman Nadia, and his eternal roommate Chris Perkins. Now Perkins was only Tobin's roommate for I think two of the five years Tobin had been there, but he will ALWAYS be "the roommate," because.. well.. thats what he is. They're like best friends or something.. ::shurg::
From there we proceeded to my grandmother's-sister's house (great aunt??) where numerous other relatives descended upon us; most of whom came out of Davis actually. There was of course my two aunts/uncles and subsequent little cousins that I'm accustomed to, but then there were some more distant ones that I wasn't familiar with (as Chris Perkins said, "how come they don't know who you are any better than they know who I am?"). Also around this time I think Tobin's latest woman, Nadia, said "you're family is like a sitcom family, there's The Jock, The Punk, and The Nerd." Obviously meaning Tobin was The Nerd... awww "nerrrrdlove!" (as Diane would say). (=
AAaaand... then I got home -- The End.

Oh and mother supplied me with like mass cheese danishes and a pood* of salami!

Kristy's photos from my party in that recent entry are now on a faster better server thanks to [livejournal.com profile] codetoad, so if they weren't loading before, they are now.
