So yesterday was my birthday. In accordance with tradition I was going to go out to dinner with my best friends, but no one could make it. Probably because I'm seen as something of an ogre or something. But Kristy and her roommate Joe went to dinner with me at Caffe Italia. I got the spicey "Pasta Kabloom," it was good.

Afterwords I planned on chillaxing at Kristy's place and feeling sorry for myself as no one took up my invitation to chillax with us. This self pity plan was foiled however, when my frat-siblings from Phi Alpha Delta began showing up, eventually totalling about a dozen. Other than them, there were the people that lived there, Sashie, Gabi, and three friends of Gabi's (briefly). In conclusion, its a good thing I'm a frat boy now or I'd basically have no friends, basically. (=

In other news: Philip Neustrom has made me obsolete with his new digital SLR camera.
The (new) Secretary General of UCDMUN has resigned, time for another election.
300 protestors have been killed in Uzbekistan. I told you recent events in Kyrgestan would cause unrest in Uzbekistan and Kazahkstan.
On Friday I caught the end of The Deadutants playing on the quad, another show organized by Roxie. Then I participated in this community service thing aimed at getting kids from Davis High hepped up for college. At one point they were supposed to make a poster with the benefits and obstacles of attending college, but my group spent more time drawing pictures of things like darth vader on the poster. I tried to steer them in teh right direction, so I helped add Trogdor to the poster.

VIDEO of the Day!!: FROLICKING SQUIRRELS - "pinninated!!" (squirrel exclamation during the video, according to Kristy)

Phoneless

After my one class today 10-11 and some meetings, I hung out with Roxie and watched this band she'd brought, The Groovie Ghoulies. They were a psychobilly band, which is the awesome, but I was really impressed by their ability to randomly do songs in completely other genres and do them well.

After that I spent about an hour as an itinerate MU urchin. I wanted to get ahold of Kristy to see if she wanted to lunch with me but without my phone I was powerless. Nor could I call any other friend for that matter. I've never felt so alone in the middle of campus. Eventually Gena took pity on me and accompanied me to Pita Pit whereupon I devoured a gyro.

Much later I was fleeing an ASUCD Supreme Court meeting when I noticed some commotion in the Coffee House. Turns out it was an electronica show organized by Amie Gutierrez. "Electric Badness" was playing when I got there and I thought they were pretty cool so I hung out for awhile there with Roxie. Then another band came on that I wasn't feeling so much so I went on my way.

Apparently my cell phone turned up, they want me to call some number (I think its the MU Information Desk). Hopefully I'll be able to track it down tomorrow.

Breaking News: California Aggie conservative columnist Ian Watson allegedly fired for plagiarism involving an article about Star Wars -- Emosnail: you hear it here first!

Also Kristy and I have been dating for a year and a half now. She is sauce that is strong and I have jockred for her.

Friday evening there was another pledge event, which mostly involved just a lot of socializing at pledge-parent Nick's house. I met the girl that was trying to kill me, Michelle, and stole her stickers so she couldn't do so. She's gonna be gone all weekend so it looks like I'm safe, but I'm told my target is gone for the weekend as well so there will be very little death this weekend it seems.
Then Kristy and I went over to Roxie's because today is her birthday and she was having a little shindig. Speaking of birthdays, mine is in exactly a week.

Today Kristy and I poked around at the Whole Earth Festival for awhile, an annual celebration of trinket capitalism on campus which attracts hippies for miles around.

Thursday I hung out with Carissa and we explored local labyrinthine edifice The Social Science Building, known endearingly as "The Death Star."

That evening I went to the ASUCD Senate meeting. It was dominated by an extensive debate about whether or not the Senate should pass a resolution urging local businesses not to accept advertising from cigarette companies (or something along those lines). I just listened for logical fallacies in the arguments and desisted from participating. I got on the speakers list during public discussion at the end, but the Senate adjourned before I could speak. I might mention some of my thoughts next week.
Of particular note though, I was very disappointed in the way more than one senator summarily rejected the comparisons the "pro-smoking" Focite senators (particularly mini-Kalen) were making to alcohol, simply because they said the two things were "different." This you see, was "political correctness" in action. You probably don't think of being anti-smoking as being "politically correct," because it seems like an obvious thing to many people, but when one won't even listen to the arguments against alcohol because you know smoking is condemnable but drinking isn't so much, thats where you're letting PC guide your actions. PC makes taking certain stances condemnable and leads to less intelligent discussion and a generally undesirable political environment (though at the time one will probably not notice if one is themself on the PC train). Don't get me wrong, I am for the gradual elimination of smoking from society, and am against similar treatment of alcohol, but the summary refusal to entertain the Focite proposal offended me.
Eventually the resolution passed with Rob Roy flipping a coin to decide the crucial vote (video footage!).

Friday I went to Murder Burger for lunch with Roxie and her friend (Molly?). We saw turtles in Putah Creek and Kalen Gallaghers at Murder Burger (along with Kalen's "hetero lifemate," Behzad).

Friday night: see Pledging. Also saw The Motorcycle Diaries with Kritsy and Sashie. Its about Che Guevara before he became a radical revolutionary.

Saturday morning I took the Foreign Service Written Examination (FSWE). A six hour test designed to see if your hand has the endurance necessary to process paperwork while under fire in third world kleptocracies while advocating US policy (from a cubicle). Also Azver was there.

Pledging
Monday night we had our first pledge meeting and informed of everything about the process. Wednesday night we met our "big sibs." Mine is a girl I've known for awhile, she was a Senate reporter for KDVS like two years ago I think. I escaped early though because I needed to put together a presentation in Swedish that I had to give the next morning.
Friday night we had casino night, which I thought was cool because I have no idea how to play poker but would like to learn where money isn't on the line - as in this case. I've found my lack of understanding can almost be advantagious, since obliviousness to the value of ones cards leads to a perfect poker face. At one point I beat someone who had a flush with a better flush, causing them to exclaim "he plays a flush just like a low pair, its insane!!" Fact is though, that I hadn't even looked at my cards until I turned them over. (=
After a glorious winning streak however, people nickle and dimed me to death until I was only up 12 points.
