Last Sunday (the 28th) I hitched a ride with Phi Alpha Delta UCI up to UCLA where we met up with the Phi Alpha Delta chapters from UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCR, USC, Cal State Northridge and Mt St Marie College (also present of course was UCI and I represented UCD). The occasion was an interchapter PhAD bbq hosted by UCLA. It was quite pleasant.

Snuck away for a short bit in the middle to meet up with the Chief Justice of the UCLA student government and talk to him about court stuff, because I am a huge nerd like that.

Sunday evening Kristy passed through Mission Viejo returning from Sashieland (with Sashie) and I hitched a ride with them on down to San Diego. I hung out down there until Wednesday, whereupon I took the train back.

Friday (yesterday) I returned to work at Bee Busters, which I'm going to do about twice a week now until I find a job. Boss Dave: "Kris, your hand-eye coordination could use some work, I'm assigning you to play some pingpong." Dave, Technician Bob and I spent about half the day lollygagging about HQ, playing pingpong and procrastinating making wine, and then Bob and I got some calls.
Last night I hung out with my good friend Alex and some friends of hers.

I. Return to Bee Busters
I stopped by Bee Busters today to see what was going on. At the time technician Bobby was lollygagging about in the garage so I played pingpong with him for awhile on their new pingpong table. Eventually owner Dave and other technicial Jeremy showed up. Senior technician Ryan was on vacation (office Amy was also about).
In addition to the various random stuff they had in the garage before (such as a spa and a go cart, among many other things), they have recently added a dirt-bike, dart-board, antique couch, pingpong table, and, most frivolously, an intercomm between the office and break room. Additionally apparently Dave intends to start experimenting with brewing at his place. For Christmas this year Dave got them all either ipods or nice digital cameras.
Dave was feeling rather irked because a reporter was supposed to come by (as usual), but kept putting off her arrival due to excuses such as "they just found the body!" (apparently another story she was working on). On Saturday Bee Busters is having an open house, so if you're in the area and want to see the Bee Cave in all its glory you should come by.

II. Phi Alpha Delta UCI
Later this evening I hopped on over to UCI (which is only about 15 min from Mission Viejo) to attend a meeting of their chapter of Phi Alpha Delta. They had a defense attorney from San Diego guest speaking, it was pretty interesting. I got his card, he was interested in having me shadow him for a day next time I'm down there, so that was very successful.
Tomorrow PhAD UCI is participating in a dodgeball tournament or something. I picture it being like the movie. On Sunday they're meeting up with Phi Alpha Delta UCLA up in UCLA-land and I'm probably going to join them on that adventure.

III. Judicial Adventures at UCI
The Assistant Chair of the ASUCI Judicial Council (the equivalent of the Vice Chief Justice of the ASUCD Court) is in Phi Alpha Delta so I met her tonight and talked to her about that. Apparently, THEY get PAID. Council members get $100 a month, the Assistant Chair $200 a month, and the Chair $300! AND, they haven't even met yet this quarter!
OUR entire Court just recently got a $100 budget, for the year. That works out to about a buck twenty-three per justice per month.

In other news, there are about 18 hours remaining until I become possibly the first person ever to reach the end of the four year term limit for the court.
I'm expecting this to be a very dramatic quarter in ASUCD, and as such I intend to still attempt to cover developments. As such, insiders, make sure to serve me up your steaming hot scoops of gossip. Reporters, unlose my phone number, I'm still the most qualified expert on ASUCD, in possession of unrivaled perspective from five years of unaligned involvement, and finally free to express opinionated observations!

This past weekend Kristy came up to visit.

On Friday we attended the Phi Alpha Delta formal, which was held in the Veteren's Memorial.
Those of us who intended to drink each donated $10 with which officers acquired alcohol which they made available at the event to those who had paid. Though Kristy & I had each donated $10, we brought our own higher quality alcohols in flasks to be assured a certain quality. But then Social Chair Tessie Cross told us that we were not allowed bring our own alcohol. However, I don't see how the alcohol we brought was any different from the alcohol THEY brought. Such a rule makes sense when a catering service is providing food/beverages and expects to be held liable for any results of consumption/embibement at a given event, but in this case everything was provided by members. On any account, as we had just finished our own alcohol supply the situation was moot.
Anyway, Kristy & I had a pleasant banquet experience and I was pleased to introduce her to the numberous new pledglings whom had not met her yet. Kirill, whom I've rather adopted in lieu of the early disappearance of the pledglinig I was assigned as a little sib, got me a flask as a present, saying I seemed like a flask kind of guy. (=
Towards the very end of banquet I was holding an empty alcohol container that was shaped like a globus cruciger, which I thought was rather novel, and its donator, Alvin, had said I could have. Social Chair Tessie Cross approached me and took it from me, explaining presumably "you cannot have that because _____" but none of the people I was standing with could understand what she said due to ambient noise. We just shrugged and let her make off with it. Shortly thereafter Tessie departed the event leaving the globus on a table with some other discarded trash, so I reacquired it.
The traditional Pledge Party took place after the banquet starting at midnight -- as scheduling it the following day would have conflicted with the CoHo Formal, apparently. It consisted primarily of people standing around awkwardly for a little while and then dispersing. Many went to IHOP, where they had more fun.

The next evening (Saturday), after various fun Davis-related adventures (such as Farmer's Market) we ended up at the Foyerhouse. What had begun as simply a plan for some of Kristy's close friends to all hang out with her on Saturday had escalated first to a facebook-event titled "Worship the Greatness of Kristy" (title not approved by Kristy) and then a semi-formal event when Kristy decided she wanted to wear her dress again. I wore my polka-dot tie, and Olivia also wore a dress. Britta & Julie came dressed as a devil & gangster, respectively, which I thought was awesomely random.
I made some Glögg I had decided to randomly pick up at Cost Plus earlier and everyone loved it.

Otherwise.. we just had a lot of pleasant adventures and it was quite fun.

Now, though earlier today I issued an encyclical urging you all not to post about your daily lives, I'm going to go ahead and do just that. But wait, before you declare me the antichrist, let me note that I bring you a photo essay -- a photo essay with drunken debauchery, people dressed up, and people practically naked! This, my friends, is almost always a recipe for an acceptable blogging. Also I already posted a less underbloggist entry today, and though I recused that one as being too recursive (being about 30 in 30 itself), I think together these two entries should meet blogthodox requirements.

Last night Kristy & I attended both my Φ A Δ (Pre Law) formal & then Gina Scheffel's "Dress Your Best .. Or Not!" Party.

For no particular reason I thought I'd link to one of my all time very favourite 30 in 30 posts now to inspire you all: Jesus Cthulhu.
As to my best day 3 post choice, I'm not gonna beat around the bush, its going to [livejournal.com profile] apoplecticfittz again. Though original megabloggist philosophy1 frowned upon the use of multimedia as taking away from the technique & craft, it was quickly seen that the use of images very greatly enhanced the achievable hilarity in entries. Even those without digital cameras can still find images on the internet to enhance their entries, and I would say I definitely encourage this. It helps counteract the debilitating effects of TL;DR, and frankly I think some of you need to turn some attention to the TL;DR issue.
And so my point is: that [livejournal.com profile] apoplecticfittz's post for today is a brilliant example of how a simple office prank can be turned into a hilarious blogccomplishment through effective use of multimedia.

Another example of good use of multimedia I'd like to recognize is [livejournal.com profile] orwell_troll's first post (ever, actually). The simple addition of a 51st star to the US flag demonstrates how very simple a brilliant idea can be. In addition to the aforementioned Brent "Darth Laabs" Laabs, I'd like to give a shout out to the other people who have either joined 30 in 30 since my last post or I just forgot them at that time: [livejournal.com profile] gerbilgrrl, [livejournal.com profile] professor_david, the mysterious [livejournal.com profile] anonymous_frosh, [livejournal.com profile] punitrebel, and the venerable [livejournal.com profile] citizene (reporting from Singapore).

Internet's been down for three days. SBC said the entire area was down, but ThickAir, whom we get internet directly from (through SBC lines) said that it should be working, but I wasn't showing up on their network. Technician said he'd reset the network and it should be up in twenty minutes. That was two days ago. Situation hasn't improved, and the technician hasn't answered or returned my calls since.
So in order to go online I have to go into the freezing study lounge. Now, temperature was pushing 98 outside today, and everyone was complaining about it, but in here, I had to go get a coat. d=

Anyway, today is my birthday (No one would know if it weren't for Facebook. I'm not really doing anything special, though Kristy & I might go to Rock It this evening.
On Friday, for my birthday, Kristy made me a fancy dinner that consisted of, among other things, gnocchi (which is one of my favourite things ever), and for dessert delicious nutella pizza (pictures coming soon). She also got me some real port (I've only had $5.99 port before (= )
My actual birthday started at 12:00 last night with Kristy calling me while I was hanging out at a campfire at Lake Berryessa with Jenn Smyrnos & Nicole Farazian, two very awesome people.

Saturday was an official-unofficlal* Φ A Δ retreat at Lake Berryessa. It was fun. It was attended by Tessie Cross, Alex Estrada, Gena Rinaldi, Jenn, Nicole, and myself.
Now Lake Berryessa is about half an hour away, and, it turns out, directly on our own Russel Boulevard.
Russel, the main thoroughfare of the city of Davis: leaves town to the west; becomes a small squiggle of a road between farms; becomes a main thoroughfare in nearby Winters; becomes Highway 128; and goes right past Lake Berryessa.

* I'd like to go on the record that I think the "official-unofficial" categorization of events is dumb. Its not against our rules to have alcohol at events, so thats not a problem. Theoretically it has been argued that this categorization releases the fraternity of some liability -- I don't really buy that though, if something did come up I doubt any court would be impressed by the officially-unofficial nature of things. Really its primary effect is to violate the spirit of Φ A Δ bylaws, by explicitly reserving the right to violate Φ A Δ bylaws.

Today I swore-in my fourth ASUCD President & Vice President. There seems to be severe inflation of farewell speeches. Once upon a time they were held in the Mee Room, where Senate takes place -- a room rated for 50 people. Then it moved to the East Conference Room (rated for 80). Sara Henry held her farewells in MU II (150). Then Gallagher moved it off to the Cabernet Room of the Silo, and now Assagai had his farewell speech in the ARC Ballrooms, rated at 400 people.
Also it was hellof catered. Y'all should have come for the food.. after all, you paid for it (well in one way or another through either ASUCD fees, state subsidies or federal subsidies, all of you except maybe [livejournal.com profile] ashael)

Yesterday Phi Alpha Delta had a mock trial. I was a defence lawyer. The judge was the president of the Davis mock trial team (and a member of Phi Alpha Delta), John Wheat. The defendant was accused of kidnapping Bailey. I was rather anxious since I've never done mock trial before (and no one got back to me on what part of it exactly I'd be handling until the trial had actually started), but afterwords my cross-examination was one of two actions that Judge Wheat announced as particularly good (despite the fact I only discovered I'd mostly lost my voice when I began the cross-examination! (I've been a wee bit sick))
Prosecution couldn't seem to get over the fact that Defendant Ms Tyler Perry has a wife (apparently same-sex marriage is legal in the state of Midlands). Prosecutor Sohaib invented some awesome new objections though, such as "Objection: Ridiculous!!" "Objection: Flattery!" and (against me) "Objection: badgering a child!"

Also yesterday, I bought a dozen doughnuts. Over the course of 24 hours, I ate three, flatmate Vishal ate 1, & flatmate Jason ate eight.
Now to some people this is self evident, but to others it is an utter mystery. Lest any of my readers accidently be "that roommate:" (1) generally, even if you have somewhat of an agreement to share food, you probably should not eat more than half of a particular thing of your roommate's. (2) Additionally, you probably should not either be the first to open or start eating something of your roommates, and (3) neither shalt thou eateth the last of a given something of your roommate's.

In other news: I've had to wear a suit for one reason or another every day for over two weeks now. d=

Walking From Woodland
Thursday Morning I caught the Yolo Bus at appx 8:30am. Three things about Yolobus: (1) they like to run the words Yolobus together. When I first saw one upon arriving here I was very confused as to what a "yolobus" was (related to a blunderbus?). (2) They're webpage is completely baffling. (3) The drivers like to respond to any question by mumbling incoherently under their breath.
Anyway so I caught the bus on Thursday morning. Despite my best efforts to understand their webpage, I still turned out to unexpectedly have to change buslines to get to the Superior Courthouse in Woodland. I arrived at my destination 12 miles north an hour later, at 9:25am.
Then I realized the sheriffs office I was supposed to be at was not the one attached to the Courthouse but one at the other end of Woodland. Lacking any way of knowing what bus line went in that direction I just started walking, arriving there3.3 miles and 45 minutes later. I suppose I should note that I had had my mercedes towed to the mechanic a few days ago, and he has pronounced that the engine needs extensive repairs and it should be towed to some specialist in Roseville, hence I don't have a car. But now I was three miles from the last known bus stop, and no closer to knowing the arcane secrets of yolobus. So I decide to walk back to Davis. Yeah that took something in excess of two hours. )=
Keep in mind, I was wearing a suit for all of this.
But the good news is I got an internship in the Yolo Superior Court.

What I Learned Today in Law School
Today (Friday) I went down to The City (San Francisco) to visit the UC Hastings law school with Phi Alpha Delta. First we sat in on a class on torts, then we were given a tour.
Now in law school, everyone has a laptop in class. They use these for a combination of talking on AIM, browsing the internet, and shopping. Occasionally they serve more useful purposes, for example when the students next to me got into an intense debate about whether the professor looked more like 3rd Rock From the Sun star John Lithgow, or US Special Prosecutor / Blowjob Police Kenneth Starr, they used their laptops to furnish evidence (It was definitely John Lithgow). This isn't to imply I didn't learn anything though -- the student next to me shared a bit of wisdom with me: "see how I raised my hand immediately and said something that was largely irrelevant? Now the teacher won't call on me for the rest of class because he thinks I've already participated." Genius.

In Other News: Case # 32 was filed on Thursday. We now have four cases queued up. Case # 29 hearing is on Tuesday, you should all come.

Quote of the Day - from last week actually
"How can you be a 'fan of international law'?" -ASUCD Justice Massarweh(?)

On Friday my cell phone escaped from my pocket while on a unitrans bus (at least I hope thats where it escaped). Unitrans brings their lost and found to the Memorial Union Information Desk every morning... of the school week. So I'm without a phone this weekend. )=
Kristy's computer is broken. In addition to all the hardships associated with trying to do homework without a computer, this also causes Kristy and I to have no way to communicate. )=

My flatmates went on a cleaning frenzy last night because a prospective replacement of Ben was coming to look at the apartment this morning. Ben is intent on escaping as soon as he graduates next quarter. Now that our place is actually clean, we're thinking of maybe having a party next weekend. There will, of course, NOT be anyone banninated from said party, as that would be childish.

Also I'd like to note, that while I appreciate that I was missed at the party last night, the practice of unblocking me just to drop me little messeges like that and then retreating behind the blocking again seems very silly. We recommend anyone who wishes to block someone on AIM either do so completely, or not at all, but NOT use it as a tool to subject someone to your thoughts without having to hear their responses. This practice has also been determined by an expert panel to be childish.

In unrelated news there are emphatic rumours that a case has been filed for the ASUCD Supreme Court. I have yet to be officially notified however. A second case is rumoured to be likely to be filed as well, but I've learned to believe it when I see it. If this turns out true former Vice Chief Justice Daniel Raff, one of our most enthusiastic justices during his term, will likely be quite disturbed, as he resigned about an hour before I heard about the case that allegedly has been filed.
Furthermore, while we cannot currently make quorum, new potential justices were interviewed earlier in the week and according to normal time frames should have been confirmed at Senate on Thursday. For whatever reason, they were not there (I'm not involved in this process). If a case has been filed his will likely delay the whole process another week.

Also, Kristy and I totally saw a man with a hook for a hand the other day. For serious.

Picture of the Day
Camera is currently somewhat broken. Display screen won't display. While this doesn't preclude taking pictures, it does preclude adjusting any of settings on the camera, therefore reducing control of quality to disposable-camera levels. Furthermore, this is quite disheartening.

I distinguish myself by reading relevant excerpts from my Qur'an (Committee was The Islamic Conference). Returning home we have a hearing for ASUCD Supreme Court case # 22. Also there are links posted to several newspaper articles about the removal attempts against me. Finally, this entry encompasses Thanksgiving 2003 as well, at which my relatives commented on the remarkably beautiful girl I'd been seen "escorting about town" (Kristy of course).

Two Years Ago Yesterday: Living With Cold Fish - I think flatmate Jill is a cold fish and speculate that I hope to vote her off the island at the end of the year. Incidently she didn't stay on for the following year, but I think I'd rather she stayed. Also, I craved chicken strips, two years later, yesterday, I would also get a distinct craving for chicken strips and drive across town to get some.

In keeping with the Phi Alpha Delta tradition of having more resignations annually than there are officers, and so as not to pull a Chris Goran, I have resigned from my PAD position, effective this Friday Thursday.

For Thanksgiving Kristy and I, and her flatmate Becca, went to Kristy's place in Pleasanton. Her mom makes awesome stuffing.
There we actually went and saw a movie in a theatre. Unfortunately all the movies we'd really wanted to see were no longer showing so we saw Jarhead.
Speaking of movies, every time someone refers to Sin City, which happens suprisingly frequently, I think they're saying "Sim City." And I think, "Sim City?" what kind of movie is THAT? I imagine, like the game, it starts out all good and fun but after awhile the characters begin to feel a lack of purpose and grow bored.
We hung out briefly with Kristy's ex, Randy, and their friends from HS. It was suprisingly pleasant. I think they all overcompensated in their efforts not to make me feel awkward, for example there wasn't a single reference to my mohawk. Wtf. These certainly aren't people who see mohawks every day. Furthermore, Randy is totally the lol-cow of his friends -- even after numerous years, making fun of Randy is still a favourite activity of theirs. I mean, how can you resist when he's wearing silly little Steve Madden leather shoes.

In other news, my friend Kris is currently working for the United Nations in Niarobi, Kenya. Like a good little UN employee, she is blogging. Having perused her blog the other day I found this picture particularly amusing. Chile donated a giant statue of an index finger to Kenya?! I wonder who got the middle finger.
My friend Marianna is currently working for the United Nations in New York. I asked her to tell me all the juicy gossip but she said "I can't -- I'm probably being bugged." Its kind of scary when someone says that in a serious manner.

So, tis the season when we have a new herd of pledglings aspiring to join our esteemed organization. Among other things, they're competing with eachother to get points from the members for whatever reason. So far I've given out two points, the first because the pledge said he'd slept with the local director of N.O.W. and I thought that deserved a point at least (which was the first point given out by anyone this quarter incidently). Pledges must interview five members a week, and one of the pledges' questions was "would you rather have angel wings or a prehensile tail" -- I thought that question was awesome and gave him a point for that (prehensile tail all the way).

Anyway, if any pledglings stumble upon this, I'll give you up to five points for reading my livejournal, based on a quick quiz which will cover the most recent 20 entries. Also, there might be something basic from the daviswiki page on me on this quiz so go find that too.
Also you get a point for applying for the ASUCD Supreme Court.

And in the mean time, some questions for the rest of you:

Thursday morning at the bus stop there were, among other people, these two guys that looked cartoonishly jock-like. They were practically square, like Strong Mad. As they're getting on the bus, one of them says in a voice everyone can hear "so the tests came back and they weren't positive for herpes but the doctor says I still might have it.. I think its gonna be okay though" to which the other one, who had a white guy with a completely shaved head, responded "no, its NOT okay. Its not okay until I know I'm not gonna get that shit from you!" Uh, you're not gonna get it from talkign to me" "Whatever, that shit is contagious..." and basically the entire ride to school it went around with the skinheaded guy being convinced he was gonna get it, and the other guy casually playing it down. Within a short time everyone else in the bus was whispering to whomever was next to them about it.

On Friday evening Kristy, her flatmates and I went to The Grad again for their dollar drinks before ten. Then the flatmates all rocked out, and there was general craziness.

Last time we went Jordan Smart spoke in a russian accent for the entire eight hour drive back -- no wonder we don't do it anymore. Anyway our fake fake UN conference was boring as expected, and when not justifying the Saudi Arabian policy on capital punishment I was guiding my viking people in Civilazation III on my computer.

Friday evening Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) had our "little sib revealing" where the incoming pledges get to find out which member has been assigned to guide them through the pledge process and egg them on for their own amusement. My little sib didn't show up so my evil plot for world dominion will be slightly delayed. The event was at the corn maze in Woodland, which was pretty cool. I'd always wanted to go to a corn maze but never gotten around to it before. I think Michelle & I (& her pledgling) finished first, a clear testament to our awesomeness.

From there I went back home only to return a few hours later with Ben for this big costume party in Woodland, one of the hosts of which was in PAD. Ben went as Johnny Bravo, which was pretty cool. I couldn't think of anything creative so I donned my black cloak and was an evil jedi with a mohawk, or something (or the grim reaper with a mohawk and no scyth).
Around 1:00 Ben & I departed that place caught up with Kristy at another costume party in the Temescal apartment complex in North Davis. This was a "C" themed party, everyone had to be something starting with a C. Kristy was a cat. It looked like it was a really strongsauce party, Ben and I wished we'd gotten there sooner.

Two Years Ago And A Week Ago Today:
The Devil v The Devil - On who's really controlling the puppets in my court room.
Two Years Ago Last Tuesday: ASUCD Tahoe Retreat 2003 - President Sara Henry foreshadows her lack of understanding of the concept of three equal branches of government, and general good times are had by all. I was looking forward to doing it again but last year Comptroller Menezes planned it on halloween weekend and this year comptroller Whitney isn't planning on having it at all. Did you know the Government Codes mandate that there must be three retreats per year?
Two Years Ago Last Thursday: Taking Back Monday - Taking Back Sundays plays acoustic on the quad, because the bureaufascists in campus events wouldn't let them use amplified sound, despite the fact that the group that did have the sound permit that day gave them permission. This would later result in an ASUCD senator (Lydiana Alfaro) making an ass of herself and then getting further pwned by this livejournal.
Two Years Ago Last Friday: Snapple Piracy - a classic tale of piracy, vindication, and firebombing a city.
Two Years Ago Today: Death to Officer Chang - I unexpectedly come face to face with my nemisis, Officer Chang, when he comes to ASUCD to whine and feed them filthy filthy lies about why he got fired. I'd have given him a firm shellacking but I think I was positively shaking with anger and hadn't recovered from the unexpected shock of seeing him there until it was too late.

So yesterday I missed the Jason Webley show at the hippie cafe because I am a frat boy. (I'd link here to Alvin saying we're all big ass nerds (BANs) in Phi Alpha Delta or something along those lines but its in a comment somewhere deep in my lj). Anyway, we were having our weekly meeting yesterday and everything was going smoothly until a certain member brought up some previously resolved drama (we'll call him The Appellant) and started trying to stick it to the officers. What was really weird about this was for the first time in a very long time someone was having an organizational judicial drama debate and I wasn't involved at all! But I certainly have a lot of experience in the area so I thought I'd at least review it.

Now I have absolutely nothing personal against The Appellant, and despite my opinions on how the drama went down, I still have no personal opinion about him.
So basically what went down is he kept asking the officers questions he intended to implicate them in wrongdoing and wrack them with guilt. And this went on for quite some time. The incident had already been resolved through an agreement between the officers and the member who had been found liable, but The Appellant, uninvolved in the incident, felt that he should demand recourse for the member. Anyway, through his questioning he changed what his actual complaint was to varied other things such as alleged check fraud, failure of officers to adhere to their own duties, lying to the national office, and a variety of other things all of which I believe are completely unfounded. But the point is, I think the act of changing his complaint to whatever it looked like might stick at the moment is really the hallmark of someone whose concern isn't about the original issue but just has beef with The Man and wants to try to stick it to them through any manner possible.
Also the argument went round and round and round, often returning to things already discussed and answered. It was quite tedious. Now I've been in The Appellant's approximate position before, of alleging wrongdoing of an organizations officers (ie Secretary-General Myung's reign of terror in MUN), but I'm proud to say unlike The Appellant in the instant case, I usually kept the discussion down to about two interchanges before I made a motion or stated the action that I was going to take lest they resolve it. This was just messy.

As to our officers, they did a pretty good job considering. My only advise would be (A) try not to get flustered and defensive (they did a good job in this really, but remaining unflustered and undefensive is really the key to making a renegade naysayer look like a nutjob1), and also (B) making a diagram of the situation on the blackboard would of made it harder for him to run around in circles with the issue and would have been delightfully patronizing.

So thats that. Altogether our officers have handled the situation very well, and I know that they had all tried very hard to come to the best solution to the original problem. But hey we're a pre-law fraternity so you have to expect a member to get litigious every now and then.

1But in the event the renegade naysayer is not a nutjob, or the likely circumstance the renegade naysayer is myself (take note, new MUN leadership), it still makes things easier for everyone involved if you try to give the individual the most thought out and serious answers possible. On any account, if the complaintant is myself, it could lessen the enthusiasm with which I make you look like a nutjob to everyone else.

So Thursday night was the Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) initiation, followed by a post initiation party. Unfortunately we don't have any pictures of either of these events currently at our disposal, as my camera was broken at that time. Since then it has inexplicably recovered. Anyway, I am now officially a fratboy.
Friday the adventures continued with PAD end of the year banquet. Kristy and I tried to get a picture of ourselves but people are retarded and apparently everyone feels the need to center pictures on ones face, hold the camera horizontally, and cut one off in the chest while including all this useless space above one's hair. I'm officially adding this activity to my list of pet peeves. Granted several of those who attempted were to some degree intoxicated, it seems like the correct way to capture the most of a more or less rectangular area (the photo subject) in a potentially larger rectanger (the camera viewfinder) should be obvious to any university attendant. Apparently it is a foreign concept.

In other news, I posted an evaluatory poll in my last entry. The results appear to be definite approval in all areas and a decided improvement over a year ago.
   Accuracy shows a 2.36 improvement to 10.44; Impartiality is up the most, 3.33 to 9.25*; technical aspects of writing are up 1.87 to 10.44; length is down .02 to 7.6; Relevance is up 2.15 to 9.00; amusement is up .8 to 9.44;
Overall we're up .83 to 9.6, with an average improvement of 1.74
*One must certainly discard the statistically anomolous vote of [livejournal.com profile] eternality, as he (Kevin Gong) is clearly biased. Not only does he clearly side with the shady regime of Secretary-General Myung, even THEY have this to say about him: amazonjedimaster: kevin is universally unliked; amazonjedimaster: but not everyone knows that; amazonjedimaster: i think kevin would be the best bet; PrzemekP: good point. Kev it is; amazonjedimaster: everyone knows that kevin is a parrot; PrzemekP: true.
Whats more, he knows they say things like this about him but he's still a die hard Myungist cadre. Surely such an invertibrate is in no position to appreciate the more balanced view of things one finds here at emosnail, and ought to recuse himself from speculating on the impartiality of this livejournal.

In Other News: I recently discovered the awesomeness that is the geoduck, and verily it is awesome. Someday if I play my cards right I hope to behold one in person.

So yesterday was my birthday. In accordance with tradition I was going to go out to dinner with my best friends, but no one could make it. Probably because I'm seen as something of an ogre or something. But Kristy and her roommate Joe went to dinner with me at Caffe Italia. I got the spicey "Pasta Kabloom," it was good.

Afterwords I planned on chillaxing at Kristy's place and feeling sorry for myself as no one took up my invitation to chillax with us. This self pity plan was foiled however, when my frat-siblings from Phi Alpha Delta began showing up, eventually totalling about a dozen. Other than them, there were the people that lived there, Sashie, Gabi, and three friends of Gabi's (briefly). In conclusion, its a good thing I'm a frat boy now or I'd basically have no friends, basically. (=

In other news: Philip Neustrom has made me obsolete with his new digital SLR camera.
The (new) Secretary General of UCDMUN has resigned, time for another election.
300 protestors have been killed in Uzbekistan. I told you recent events in Kyrgestan would cause unrest in Uzbekistan and Kazahkstan.
On Friday I caught the end of The Deadutants playing on the quad, another show organized by Roxie. Then I participated in this community service thing aimed at getting kids from Davis High hepped up for college. At one point they were supposed to make a poster with the benefits and obstacles of attending college, but my group spent more time drawing pictures of things like darth vader on the poster. I tried to steer them in teh right direction, so I helped add Trogdor to the poster.

Friday evening there was another pledge event, which mostly involved just a lot of socializing at pledge-parent Nick's house. I met the girl that was trying to kill me, Michelle, and stole her stickers so she couldn't do so. She's gonna be gone all weekend so it looks like I'm safe, but I'm told my target is gone for the weekend as well so there will be very little death this weekend it seems.
Then Kristy and I went over to Roxie's because today is her birthday and she was having a little shindig. Speaking of birthdays, mine is in exactly a week.

Today Kristy and I poked around at the Whole Earth Festival for awhile, an annual celebration of trinket capitalism on campus which attracts hippies for miles around.

So I woke up with a start today at 7am, lying on top of my alarm, which wasn't going off because I think I turned it off around 4am after hitting snooze several times.
So I quickly kluged together a presentation in Swedish to make during class that morning and scampered after the bus.
Around noon however the former Director-General of the US Foreign Service introduced me to a former US ambassador to the United Nations, who asked me how I keep my hair up.
Then around two I assassinated one Aysha Mohsin* and my day was definitely looking up. Once it was raining things were pretty good, and Swedish is cancelled tomorrow so its officially weekend for me now (note: it is wednesday)

My internet connection was down all afternoon yesterday, because its awesome like that. We can only imagine the amazing livejournal entry I would have made at that time if I had internet access. Seriously think about it. Pretty awesome no? Okay anyway, here are some more harrowing tales of being in a rush:

Rush -- Day II
On Tuesday the Phi Alpha Delta rush event was an example of the LSAT preparation courses they can get. This guy from “Testmasters,” an LSAT preparation course, talked to us about taking the LSAT and the Testmasters course. It was pretty cool. Competitive Mingling ensued thereafter.

Rush -- Day III
Wednesday’s event was a BBQ in Primaro Grove. While mingling there, someone thanked me for the design of Oxford Circle (Little Big People) Park; a connection they presumably made from the Daviswiki.

Rush -- Day IV
Thursday (today) rush week ends with interviews. Shortly after my interrogation they will no doubt issue a verdict of “not strong enough sauce,” this little adventure in fraternity life will come to an end, and we will return to our normal programming (the eternal pursuit of polling shadiness) here at Emosnail.

In a Rush

Apr. 12th, 2005 04:30 pm
aggienaut: (tea)

Apparently a number of persons, notably Peter Hernandez have come out in protest over the cow milking demonstration that traditionally accompanies Picnic Day. Traditionally the ASUCD President milks a cow, and I don't know what their beef with it is, but they've persuaded new ASUCD President Caliph Assagai to forego his divine right of cow milking. Others would have the tradition continue however, so former ASUCD President Kalen Gallagher will be milking the cow in his place. The real question I have however is when will former president Gallagher cease milking the ceremonial priviledges of ASUCD president?

In other news, a peace rally on campus went terribly awry last Thursday when it became apparent that a significant number of participants weren't actually at all interested in "giving peace a chance." Chad van Schoelandt reports.

In A Rush
On Monday (yesterday) I attended the first rush event for Phi Alpha Delta. Today I'll be going to the second. Yes I am rushing Phi Alpha Delta.
PAD isn't just the prefix of Kristy's favourite Thai dish, it is also the acronym for the national pre-law co-ed professional fraternity.
Mondays event was competitive mingling. After a brief period of introduction about the society and relevant details we were instructed simply to get to know as many members as we could, as at the end of rush week they'd be voting on who they wanted to induct. There followed about two hours wherein the rushees tried to meet as many members as they could. After questions about the society were exhausted, questions of "whats your major?" and "where are you from?" got old fast. I resorted to asking every member if they preferred their orange juice with pulp or no-pulp. I'll probably become known as "the orange juice guy." Also at least one of the members recognized my name from edits on Daviswiki.

Today's rush event is titled "testmasters LSAT seminar." Also I've heard rumours that the pledge events (after rush week the accepted rushees become pledges during the "pledge period" -- terminology I learned last night) include more LSAT preparation and possibly tests on case law or something. I'm optimistic that this won't bring me into contact with poison ivy or the toxic waters of Putah Creek like the Phi Delta Epsilon rush did for my roommates freshman year.
