Today
Today I finally got down to Diedrichs again, for the first time in at least a week. Alexis the Frenchman came as well. There were two chess boards going at Diedrichs. The regular chess games are starting to attract more chess enthusiasts. Today there was this guy Brett who teaches Chess to the children of rich people for $30 was down there. He was damn good and gave a few pointers to everyone. There was also this guy Jim who is 62 and has three masters degrees. Then this middle-aged guy who it appears had just come in for coffee joined a game.
Former Diedrichs-area security guard Danny showed up which was awesome because I hadn't seen him in a year and he is awesome.
After Diedrichs closed down after 10:00 Alexis went with Mike & Brian to this bar/place called Le Cave that purportedly was pretty cool and had jazz music. I didn't go though because jazz music usually involves saxophones and saxophones to me are like nails on chalkboards. Apparently they continued to play chess there.
After they left Brett and I ended up talking about logical fallacies, paradoxes, & logical riddles. Eventually we went to Harbour House to continue talking, and played some chess.
In Other News" my laptop which is essentially dead at this point.

Forty Entries in Forty Days
Jul. 10th, 2005 11:57 pm So I don't know about the rest of you but I had an exciting weekend of hanging out at the coffee shop and not finding anything better to do. Unfortunately, even most of the other regulars at Diedrichs found something better to do so it ended up just being me and Caroline the girl that's there every day studying for the bar exam. So I broke out the LSAT booklets and studied with her. After Diedrichs closed at 10pm on Saturday we went to the Harbour House restaurant in Dana Point and continued studying for our respective tests until 2.
Otherwise, Jenelle Bel Isle showed up at Diedrichs on Friday, and Matt Morgan showed up this evening with an interesting haircut.
Picture of the Day

Apparently Diedrichs is such a cultural Mecca, the OC busline decided they needed to start serving it. (actually I think this bus must have been really lost or something)
In Other News: Tomorrow I go to work as an apiacidal maniac.

Two Years Ago Today: Spotlight on the Diedrichs Crew - Most of those mentioned here are still around. Not sure what happened to Becka though. Apparently the reason in the entry my friend had an aversion to Diedrichs was the Mike the Horrible Human is the father of her child (really). Also we had a beach bonfire and then we all went to a jacuzzi and then some of us got free taco bell. Man those were some good times.
Year Ago Today: The International Court of Weak Sauce - I thoroughly critique the ICJ decision vis-a-vis the Israeli wall and conclude that the ICJ is totally weaksauce.
20 of 30 - Phosting It
Jun. 20th, 2005 11:52 pm So yeah, I left Davis around 6pm yesterday (Sunday), my and my two little girls, and I come rolling in here about 26 hours later with the addition of some pond water, some polywogs, a whole bunch of frogs, and a woman old enough to be my mother!!
Okay so it was my mother. And by two little girls I mean the rats Leia and Delilah. When I left I was worried they'd be too hot so I put a bunch of icecubes in their cage with them. By the time I stopped at Merced for In-N-Out I was worried they'd be too cold, but upon examination they had piled all the icecubes into one pile in the corner of their cage, crafty girls!
I took the 99 instead of the Five, because there are more towns along it and I figured there was a pretty good chance my car would explode. About two hours out I realized the first thing I'd forgotten: the two bottles of wine made by Coleman that I was going to give to my parents. Later I'd realize I forgot my flipflops as well (rainbows!) )=
Anyway I think it was about 1am when I finally reached the gate into Tweedy, but then I had to deal with a riddle of sorts. The key to the gate was "locked with a combination lock to a chain around a post -- it'll be obvious," so in the moonlight I searched the base of every pole until finally I found out with a lock and chain. Fifteen minutes of fiddling with the combination lock later I finally got that open and managed to get through the gate. Finally the last part of the quest was before me, the part I'd been dreading the entire way: the final ascension up to the cabin.
On the first attempt the car began sliding backwards and stalled. Several attempts to restart it ended in stalling and sliding further backwards. As there was a deep rut behind me (the road curved at that point on the steep hill), if this could continue the car could end up in very precarious straights indeed. Finally I tried one last time, giving the engine a mighty wallop of gas, and successfully charged up the hill.
Later I was told it was probably a good thing I didn't try to walk in from the gate, as there are mountain lions about.
The next day we (maternal grandparents, mother, myself) bollocksed about for awhile. Myself and mother went down to the lake, where there were millions of little frogs. Then we saw a 3 and a half foot gopher snake, which mother proceeded to pick up by the tail like that Australian guy (Crickey!). We waited around to avoid coming back through LA during rush hour traffic, and then returned. As mentioned, mother had decided to bring back some polywogs and frogs.
This evening I stopped by Diedrichs Coffee and found Villem, and friends from HS, Russel Renzas and Kerry Wilcox.
Also the demolition of the wooden structure at Little Big People Park in Davis began today. Inexorably society continues to move from interesting and unique things to prefabricated plastic. )=

Another Exciting Friday Night
Aug. 15th, 2004 03:07 am Another Saturday with nothing more exciting than some hanging out at Diedrichs.
The manager there hella pissed me off today, but I want to complain about it in a public post on the off chance that it'll come to her attention, which from previous experience is more likely than you'd think. So uh.. remind me to post about it in next public post. This one is going to have to be friends-only again due to a certain picture of our favourite security individual I couldn't resist posting.

Year Ago Today: Gas rises to an unprecedented $1.83 - Man, that was back in the day.
On my way to the Plain White T's1 show I stopped by Diedrichs with the lingering hope that I still might find some clue as to what happened to the former "Diedrichs Crew." As it turns out, I did luck out this time and found Krispy and Abby there.
( Where Are They Now? The (former) Diedrichs Crew )
Plain White T's
The PWT show was awesome. I think it was one of the best shows I've been to in awhile. Afterwords I was going on about how excellent it was to Kristy and I think she hates me for it now because she missed them when they were in the Bay Area.
I was afraid I'd be disappointed because I've overplayed most of their songs on my playlist, but at least half their set was new material. I think its the only show I've ever seen at Chain Reaction to have crowd surfers (lots of them), and the moshing was excellent. Unlike a lot of shows it wasn't tough guys trying to show off how tough they are and how violently they can mosh and shove, but people just enjoying themselves, it was excellent.
At the show I hung out with Anna LeLoup (former columnist for the Chosen Echidna) and Camille (mystiqmusic). Afterwords I hung out with Allie Bloomqvist (
flyinmonkey) and Laurie (
wrong_cow_girl). Incidentally, Anna, Camille and Allie were originally all part of the same group of people but it disintigrated as so many groups do and I think now I'm one of few people who still hangs out with different former members of it.

Spectrum Adventures
Dec. 28th, 2003 12:46 am So today was my last day in Orange County. I was already thinking I've seen a lot of people I used to know this break, but today alone I saw piles of old friends.
So I hunted down my old friend Nick Lucas and caught up to him at the Mission Viejo Mall ("The Shops at Mission Viejo," wtf?). While in the mall I ran into Monte's girlfriend (my little brother's best friend), and apparently my little brother's woman saw me there as well (possibly in a completely seperate incident? Because she wasn't with the other girl at the time).
Then later I go with him to starbucks uh some indie coffee shop uhhh ::shifty-eyes::, and Jessica Hanson, whom I went to school with from elementry school through HS is working there.. and this girl Bree who used to work at wild rivers is there as well.
Later on I go on down to Diedrichs, and in addition to all the regular people, Courtney Grasinger shows up (from my HS chemistry class), followed shortly by Jason Nelson, another person I went to school with from elementry school through HS.
Then I buy "cool" Kyle (I guess there must be an "uncool kyle" but I've never met him) and Mike tHH 40s of steel as their christmas presents. While at Viejo Liquor I run into Akbar Khan. Back at Diedrichs, Kerry Wilcox stopped by, then in completely unprecedented behavior my little brother and his friends drove by, apparently with the sole purpose of yelling "eurotrash!!" at me. Then Kyle, Mike tHH, Laney and I went to Target because Kyle just got kicked out of his house and needed thermal underwear. Kyle and Mike tHH currently live in Kyle's car.
Shalane currently has pinkish orange hair.
Then EVERYONE decided to go to the Irvine Spectrum. And by everyone I mean Cool Kyle, Mike tHH, Shalane, Croat, Matt Morgan, Stephanie & her boyfriend Tom, Tristan and myself. So we all up and carpooled ourselves over there like the big happy family we are in three cars.
Much mischief was then caused at the Irvine Spectrum. While there I ran into Anamica from UCD Model UN. Its always weird to run into people from Davis while down here.
And then I ran into Jessica Hughs, my date from winter formal junior year. Now see, thing with my dates to dances: (A) my dates to the last four dances were named Jessica, Jennifer, Jessica, & Jennifer, (four different people), of whom (B) three I had met at MUN conferences (all but Jessica Hughs). Anyway, Jessica Hughs has spent the last three years in Oregon, so it was really suprising to run into her.
Anyway, after a great deal of mischief was perpetuated, Kyle, Mike tHH, and I rode the parking trolly around forever and finally half frozen got to my car, and we returned to Diedrichs, where we reconvened with Laney and Croat. Then I bid everyone adieu and went home. The end.

Bulgarian Steel
Sep. 5th, 2003 11:31 am So yesterday I wore my Steel Reserve shirt cause Becka and I were GOING to take pictures to go along with the fan mail we wrote to send to the Steel Brewing Company.. but as I said the digital camera was AWOL.
Upon arriving at Diedrichs Mike the Horrible Human greeted me with "hey dumbass, you forgot an E on steele!" Now this of course was so flabbergastingly stupid it took me a second to figure where to even begin. Then I was like "uh. You are either dyslexic, or illiterate. Steel has two Es on the can and anywhere else." It turns out him and his friend Tom the Horrible Human's Stooge (THHS) both made shirts that say "steele reserve." Hahahahaha awwwwwwwww they're dumb! Later on when THHS himself was there MtHH was like "Hey look Kris spelled steele wrong!" and I laughed at them both again (well THHS hadn't been around for the first incident). I think MtHH motivation here was to prove that he wasn't the only person who spelled it wrong.. to bring his henchman down to the same level of shame as he. Isn't it cute how horrible people treat eachother?
Much later as I was leaving THHS came up to me and was like "hey do you have a fireplace?" me: "uh, why?" "you should burn that shirt as soon as you get home" (MtHH is always threatening to set my shirt on fire. My shirt enrages him, presumably because he has the same shirt but spelled wrong).
Now this minion of MtHH's, Tom; how pitiful must one be to idolize MtHH??
In other news, it is now September; rumour has it that my one and only Ex-girlfriend will be returning from Bulgaria (map2) this month. But none of us have heard anything for a long time now.

Real Men Write Monster LJ Entries
Jul. 10th, 2003 02:49 pm For the extremely concise version of yesterday's activities, check this.
Additionally I met some friends at "the chocobean" coffee shop to transfer them funds on behalf of someone else as part of a certain secret operation (and no it doesn't involve trafficking of drugs). Apparently they had an aversion to Diedrichs. ::shurg::
Then I swam laps
Then we had us a bonfire on capo beach again... it was tight, sitting on the beach with the bonfire, 40 of steel reserve in hand, while Crispy plays his guitar. Even if he WAS playing dashboard songs hehehe.
Matt told me they are totally hiring at the lumber yard he works at. I am totally going to check it out. He and Laney apparently suddenly broke up yesterday. ::shurg::
Then we went to a jacuzzi. I don't think any of us actually live in the community where its located but we know the code to get in for some reason.
Evening concluded with Katie and I getting free taco bell at midnight. Apparently they do this like every night. We didn even need to say anything we just walked up to the window and they handed us three personal-pizzas and two orders of breadsticks (its a taco bell / pizza hut). Then Alyssa, who hadn been out with us that night, randomly showed up... cause you know, the Diedrichs lot is the place to randomly show up at at midnight.
Spotlight on the Diedrichs Crew
So I realize I'm casually bandying around these people's names like everyone knows who they are, even though _I_ didn't even know almost any of them two weeks ago. And seeing as I like to think that people read my livejournal, and therefore hope that while it may have massively long entries, it at least is not disconcerting like that, I shall explain a bit about the people whose natural habitat is the Diedrichs off La Paz.
The only one of them I knew more than two weeks ago was Katie D'agistino. Her best friend is Laney, whom I call "Shillaligh" ("shill-ay-lee"). Shillaligh WAS dating this kid Matt, who's pretty for awesome. But he's not to be confused with the OTHER Matt, formerly "the guy with the Steel Reserve & Flogging Molly shirts" (or SRFM). Then there's the two Chrises, Krispy (Chrispy?), and Croa (AKA "Croat")(Suzanne's "Evil Ex"). Apparently I am "K-Dawg," at least according to Laney. Also there is totally Becka (momentsxwasted), whom I just inspired to write The Diedrichs Crew - In Depth. Otherwise there's other people that come and go, but these are the kids that are ALWAYS at Diedrichs.
Life at the House of Fricke
So I've been swimming regularly. As a consequence my dad has taken to jokingly inviting me to go swim with them in the ocean at 6am. They really do this. Like once a week or so he and his friends swim a mile in the ocean at 6am. Wacky. In addition they of course do lots of other working otu too, but 6am in the ocean. ::shudder::. Dad runs triathalons you see.
After dinner the other day dad invited me to try some excellent honey that recently came from one of the hives. It really was particularly exquisite honey. It just struck me a very Fricke moment though... us and our beehives.
And then that same evening (this is all from day before yesterday, when my only lj entry was the quizes), I notice a black widow spider in a jar on the table. Apparently mother found it at the yarn store she now works at... and of COURSE decided to bring it home as a pet. My family is kinda weird.
OMG, further proof that COMMIES are REAL ULTIMATE POWER, though you can see other opinions here. The sorority girl one is particularly choice. And of course, pirates have always been strong contenders for real ultimate power.
and as if this entry wasn't already long enough...

A Pleasantly Innocuous Evening
Jul. 8th, 2003 12:11 am Finally went to the hardware store and got brilliant red lights. yay.
Then I went for icecream with Shasta. We stopped by the Diedrichs off La Paz afterwords, but none of the usual people were there, I asked one of the employees "where is everyone?" and he said he thought they went to the beach.
I had made definite plans to hang out with Nidia this evening, but couldn't get ahold of her today. My god why do so many people flake out on me? Is it something about me? Because I'm a bad person maybe?
I decided to check out the Diedrichs Bree spoke of yesterday while I tried to figure out what to do.. the Diedrichs at Muirlands / Lake Forest. From there I went to rendezvous with Bree at DOA ("Dennies Off Alicia"), and to my surprise I find that she is with the kids from Diedrichs off La Paz (DLP?).. so that was just way funny, ending up running into those same kids anyway.
One of the DLP crew kids, Becka, and this other guy spent literally 40 minutes trying to determine how they knew eachother.. they went through everything, listed every class they'd taken (They both went to Saddleback College, as if that wasn't enough of a connection right there), listed all their friends, everything.. eventually they discovered they'd had the same therapist.. that explains a lot. Later in response to something Becka said "that is SO going in my livejournal (momentsxwasted)." Word.
A Short Entry For Once
Jul. 6th, 2003 07:15 pm When I arrived at Diedrichs around 19:00 last night I was already feeling a bit bleh on the going out, but figured I'd get over it by the time I got to the show. Very shortly after arriving at the show however my mood worsened and I found myself constantly thinking about despising everyone amd the world at large.
La Banda Skalavera was very good, I was impressed.
My mood in general worsened as the night went on. Every now and then like... maybe once every two months or so.. I will inexplicably get depressed for a few days... otherwise however I think my repression of emotion is much more successful then average.
Basically I'm not very cool, basically.
Jul. 1st, 2003 01:01 pm So yesterday I innocently head down to Diedrichs, having not actually been there in a few days and been merely antisocial; the people whom I've had plans with in the days previous having all flaked and fuchforth.
So I intended merely to get a cup of coffee but ended up stayed there all afternoon with the dozen plus regulars lurking there. It was cool, I think I bonded with Laney and Dera, whom I don't know very well. Also present were: Katie D'agistino, Alyssa, Jesska Ornstein, Boswell, Christopher Robins and the guy in the Flogging Molly shirt.
Then at like I dunno 21:00 or so we all decided to go to a spa somewhere.. this is like hella people so it would have been intereting if I'd actually gotten there. However, I did not.
"Where is this spa?" says I
"Just call one of our cells when you get to the corner of Marguerite and Alicia" says one of them
Only one problem. They were all in the spa. None of them had their cell phones on them by the time I was out there. Psha on that.
UPCOMING SHOWS (that I intend to go to)
Today - Bullets N Octane, Plain White Ts, Rudiger - at Chain Reaction - Oh hell yea. I was planning on checking the Plain White Ts website next in my search for shows. and Bullets N Octane? Definitely for awesome. I am SO there.
07/05 - La Banda Skalavera - at Chain Reaction
07/12 - Ultimate Fakebook - at Chain Reaction
07/20 - The Israelites - at Chain Reaction - and "Skattish (bagpipes ska from Arizona)" according to the website. I gotta see that!
08/03 - Bullets N Octane, Nural, Locale AM - Chain Reaction - Why does BNO always play with several other bands I love? I certainly am not complaining!
08/05 - Limbeck - Chain Reaction
08/30 - New Amsterdams - Chain Reaction - I am SO there.
As you can prolly tell all I did was check the listing at Chain Reaction. Most of the shows I go to are there.. but if you know of something for awesome elsewhere definitely drop me a line.. or if something for awesome is playing at Chain that I am not yet familiar with... Or if you want to go with me to one of the shows even.
I was there for five days straight once last summer. I wish I could get like a season pass to Chain...
Oh and if you want to see me with my full sideburns you need to go tonight to the show.. cause I have to shave them off for work tomarrow )=
Firstly, I went to TACO LOCO today with Shasta. Mmmm I had my usual calamari burger. ::drool:: soogood.
Then I made some attempts to contact Jenelle Bel Isle, for whom I no longer had a current phone number. In so doing I called Bryant Conger to no avail, and found Katie D'Agistino's number to be no longer valid either. I then proceeded once again went to Diedrichs off La Paz just to see who I might find there.
Upon arriving I immediately found Katie D'Agistino there. I'd hoped to find Alyssa working there one of these times but apparently she quit, so I tried calling her, and just as I did so, SHE showed up. Craziness. Jesska Ornstein also showed up. And then.. who should show up but Jenelle Bel Isle herself. And then, since SHE had Bryant's cell number, we called HIM. Diedrichs is the place to be.
I also briefly met Katie's friend Shalane.
Anyway, then Jenelle and I traipsed over to her place to "play scrabble" if you know what I mean. If you don't know what I mean, I mean I got violated. If you still don't know, I mean we literally played scrabble and I got the first parking violation in my life.
Good thing I happen to know the definition of "quaff" ("to drink heartily") by heart hehe.
And then there was....
GODLITE
So my seven letters in the game happened to spell "godlite," and we thought that was so funny we decided to put it on the board.
Then I pick seven new letters right? So I randomly pick G O D L I T E. TWICE IN A ROW. Someone with too much free time calculate the odds of that happening. Frankly I'm kinda freaked out.
Home Again
Jun. 22nd, 2003 05:08 am I am SO back in Orange County now.
( Airplanes and Racists - Yesterday's Adventure )
I'm still adjusting to getting back.. tonight I didn't try very hard to find something to do and ended up back home at like 11pm. I just went to the local coffee shop, Diedrichs off La Paz, where there was only one person I knew. Then I discovered everyone was at Mikey's (Jesska's younger brother) gradumatation party. So I went there, and there I found Liz, Jessika, Jesska, Mikey, (Lauren) Boswell, Robin, Robin's-Friends/Bandmates-Whose-Names-I-Can-Never-Remember. Then with epic style I spilled soda on myself saying goodbye to Robin and went home and sulked. Well okay actually I came home and played Age of Empires I admit it.
I actually compelled my MOTHER to create a nation at nationstates.net, so she created The Oppressed Peoples of Intersticial Space. I helped her make the following flag, based on the flag of Malawi:

Tomarrow is "Compton Day" at Wild Rivers. About twice a summer, mass inner city kids from LA Unified school district flood the waterpark and do their best to drown like lemmings. The CANNOT swim. Its kind of rediculous. Any deepguard can expect to make at least 15 rescues on that day. My first LAU DAy as a deepguard I remember Brian "Gumby" Hughs brought in sharpies for all the deepguards and we all kept tally of our rescues on our visors. I continued to do so my whole career actually.
